How can I change my health care information after submitting my return? It has not been accepted by IRS yet.

If your return is accepted, you should amend, or correct, your return if the original entries in the health area were incomplete. There is no additional charge to use Turbo Tax to amend your return, but you should wait until your first return is processed and you will need to mail in the amended forms, as the IRS does not accept e-files on amendments. When you enter the return, you will just click on the Health tab to add the 1095-A information. Amend instructions are below.

Click on Federal, on the left menu, and select Health Insurance, at the top.

When asked if you had health insurance in 2017 , select either all year or you will pick who and what months (total of all policies), and Continue.

When asked about being enrolled in any of these less common plans in 2017 , select Yes if anyone was enrolled for any months .

On the What type of plan were you enrolled in ? screen, select the option that generated the 1095-A and then Continue .

Follow the prompts to enter your 1095-A for the months on the form . Leave any other months blank and Turbo Tax will know it does not need any forms for that time. Your return will not need entry for any time covered by an employer's plan or by Medicaid. It does not need entry of 1095-B or Cs. It only needs specific information from the 1094-A form.

Note: If most of the lines across are the same, you can use the blue copy previous month buttons to enter it again.

Here is a TurboTax FAQ with step-by-step instructions for amending your return.

You do not need to enter the details for a 1095-C form , the way you do for a 1095-A, as it is not included in calculations for the Premium Tax Credit on Form 8962. However, the months covered by the policy that generated the 1095-C might save you a penalty for non-coverage on the Form 8965. So, if you checked all the months you were covered on the original return, there is no reason to amend for the 1095-C. If you did not check all of the months it covered, and there was no exemption, then you might save some penalties by amending . You can always enter the amend and see how it impacts the return, before you decide for sure. Please wait until your original return has been processed as it can cause confusion to have two returns both active at the IRS.
